The Loudon design is named after John Claudius Loudon, a Scottish botanist and garden designer. Known as one of the first city planners, he conceptualised London’s famous green belt, and created the first public park in 1840 that became the prototype for city parks. Loudon also invented a method of making glazing bars that allowed him to design the first curvilinear hot house, starting the great age of glasshouses and conservatories that still dominate Botanical gardens around the world today.
